Categories import error

Trying to import categories from Joomla 3 to 4 (as a test to eventually importing articles). I have tired various methods, but each throws a 'parseerror' on import. The export showed 'success', the import shows log entries, but they are empty. No messages.

Export:
Joomla 3.10.3
PHP 7.4.33

Import:
Joomla 4.1.0
PHP 7.4.33
