Must i know the complete path to the image or can does it work like in virtuemart coustom Field Type Image?

Yes you can create as many attributes as you want
You can display images from anywhere, You just need to enter full path. Or if the images are available in the same site's directory, you can give related path. e.g. images/strories/imagename.
